About Octelium

The goal of Octelium is really simple: provide the best self-hosted, scalable, free and open source platform for zero trust secure access. It's designed for humans and workloads to securely access internal/private resources behind NAT in private clouds, on-prem, IoT, your own laptop, etc... as a well as to publicly protected SaaS resources such as APIs and databases. While it is primarily built to operate as a ZTNA and a BeyondCorp ZTA architecture that can be used as a modern alternative remote access/corporate VPNs and other traditional remote access tools, it is also built versatile enough to be much more than just a remote access solution/corporate VPN alternative where it can be used as a secure deployment platform, an API/AI gateway and even as a Kubernetes ingress alternative or an infrastructure for your own Homelab to securely access all your resources. Octelium was publicly released on GitHub in May 2025. It has been, however, in heavy development since early 2020 by a solo developer, George Badawi, until he felt confident enough that it can finally be used by others in production.
